TAMMECH R-551, a Lithium Hydroxide Monohydrate (56.5% min), is a lithium soap used widely in lubricating greases. Lithium soaps deliver high oxidation stability and dropping points up to ~200 °C. R-551 is a free-flowing white fine powder with greatly reduced levels of CaO, NaOH, and Mg; the purified grade is used in specialty grease manufacture.
TAMMECH R-552 is 12-hydroxystearic acid (12-HSA), the mixed fatty acid obtained by hydrolysis of hydrogenated castor oil. Used in grease manufacturing, it is a high-melting, brittle, waxy solid at ambient temperatures. The 12-HSA content in hydrogenated castor-oil fatty acids is about 83–90%.
TAMMECH R-553 is hydrogenated castor oil (HCO), a wax-like compound obtained by the controlled hydrogenation of refined castor oil. It is a hard, brittle, high melting-point product that is practically odorless and tasteless, supplied as flakes or powder. Chemically, R-553 HCO is the triglyceride primarily of 12-hydroxystearic acid (12-HSA). It is insoluble in water with limited solubility in most organic solvents.
